My favorite would be The School of Hard Knocks. I feel that with much of the theory based learning, one might not really become successful in the corporate world. There needs to be some form of street smartness with one is to succeed in life. It's a pity not many schools are offering that.

I honestly think I would be a totally different person if I had the internet while growing up.

In a way I'm glad I didn't and spent some time outside in the real world.

Zopa - is a nice avenue for those who are in need of money to start a business. Food business needs capital to start with. Good thing there's this info that surely be of help to many.

I think it's great if everybody is given a voice and platform to voice their concerns.

Fascinating article. Another website that fits is marketocracy at http://www.marketocracy.com/

On this website, anyone with an Internet connection can become a money manager. The website sets up a hypothetical portfolio that a user picks then tracks that users performance. The best stock pickers are then hired and paid good money to manage a stock fund.

My favorite of the websites you listed is Zopa. Has anyone tried this and does it work as promised? Any problems with people not paying? Thanks.

I can't remember who said it but someone referenced the Internet Age as being in a "brave new world". I think there is a fine line between brave and dangerous. I can't think of something more ripe for legal trouble than a website like Zopa. There are laws that regulate banks and how they much loan (no discrimination, etc). Does Zopa fall under those laws? Why not? If loan sharks use Zopa and there's a public record of their activity to where they are obviously doing this as a business, what laws regulate them? Or Slice The Pie, if it's investing, then doesn't the SEC has some regulatory power over them like they do for all investments? Is Slice The Pie properly licensed as a "broker"? Call me old school but I wouldn't touch this stuff until it's clear who regulates these businesses and what recourse I have if I'm the victim of a scam.

Thanks for the link, Don - amazing documentary. Just a note you may wish to adjust some of your language - the film was not free from this link...I was asked to pay $3 for streaming or $10 a month for subscription to Joining the Docs. In addition, I was not able to "download" the film exactly: rather I was able to stream it one time. Your description of the access might be construed otherwise.
